Locally owned and operated custom builder Womack Custom Homes recently completed Phase II of its latest home addition project in downtown Cartersville. After finishing a complete renovation on the existing home in Phase I, the team returned for home additions including a new owner’s suite, living room and covered rear porch. This charming home now boasts a more cohesive layout with tons of flexible living spaces, updated appointments and stunning trimwork and board and batten details.
Extending the home’s rear footprint, the structural additions consist of a new owner’s retreat with spa-inspired bath, a living room and covered rear porch. The new owner’s suite boasts French doors leading to the new rear covered porch and plenty of natural light through the room’s single window and transom window. The new spa-like bath features tile flooring, a freestanding tub, a zero-entry, walk-in shower with frameless glass surround, a waterfall showerhead and linear drain and dual vanity with waterfall faucets and linen tower.
Located off the owner’s suite along the rear of the home, the new living room offers a cozy dining nook and oversized sliding door to access the rear covered porch. With plenty of space for entertaining friends and family, the living area features a wall of windows and an inviting sitting area surrounding an elevated hearth fireplace with granite surround and board and batten mantel and encasement.
In modern contrast to the home’s traditional brick front elevation, the craftsman-style board and batten detail continues outside to the updated rear elevation. The new covered porch serves as the perfect space to greet the day with a cup of Joe or unwind at the end of the day with a glass of wine from its charming rocking chairs.
Phase II of this project built off the first stage of work, which included a complete renovation of the existing structure with an updated gourmet kitchen. The generous L-shaped island, wall-length coffee bar with floating shelves and overall counterspace provide plenty of room for storage, food prep and entertaining. The expansive, functional island serves as the focal point in the kitchen with seating for four, stainless-steel double apron sink and farmhouse-inspired picture frame molding. Updating or adding onto an existing home is an excellent way to make a layout more functional or supplement with additional space while also increasing its total value. Home remodels and additions should be made by a company driven by a vision to implement energy-efficient features while maintaining the home’s original integrity.
